Drypoint etching, 100×150, January 2022

Series: Japanese phantoms

This is a female Kappa, and it’s said that she lived in the Tone River, in the northern Kanto region. She was a boss Kappa, and when she didn’t like something, she took her followers with her and did evil things. However, she was sometimes nice to people, and gave a Kappa wonder drug to a poor farmer’s son in Choshi, Chiba Prefecture, whose father had been injured.
