There are many traditions in Japan of sharing an image of a particular yokai spirit to offer help and protection against an epidemic. This set of eight postcards is based on a series of drypoint etching prints featuring charming and helpful yokai.

Kudan

The Kudan is a half-human, half-cow Japanese yokai spirit, which predicts important events during its short life. The image of the Kudan is a charm for warding off evil and inviting luck.

Yamawarawa

The Yamawarawa is a Japanese yokai spirit that appears in the mountains to help woodcutters. Sharing an image of the Yamawarawa also offers help and protection against an epidemic.
